Hello, my walking friend! I bet you have already started walking – if so, yay you! Way to take charge of your health by taking a 10 minute walk. Let’s get our blood pumping and our minds and hearts focused on Jesus!

Today is the 9th episode in the names of Jesus series. Today’s name really speaks of the power of Jesus because today we are reflecting on Jesus, the King of Kings.

Our verse to meditate on today is: Revelation 19:15-16 NIV:

Coming out of his mouth is a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. “He will rule them with an iron scepter.” He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: king of kings and lord of lords.

There are several other verses in the New Testament that refer to Jesus as the King of Kings.

One of them is 1 Timothy 6:13-15 NIV:

In the sight of God, who gives life to everything, and of Christ Jesus, who while testifying before Pontius Pilate made the good confession, I charge you to keep this command without spot or blame until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, which God will bring about in his own time—God, the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords…

So what is the good confession that Paul is talking about when he writes to Timothy?

Jesus, when he was called by Pontius Pilate to defend himself against the charges of blasphemy, made the good confession. He owned the title of King, though he qualified it by saying:

“My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now my kingdom is from another place.”

“You are a king, then!” said Pilate.

Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.”

According to Ellicott’s Commentary:

The confession was that Jesus Christ, before Pontius Pilate, bore witness by His own solemn words, that He was the Messiah—the long-looked-for King of Israel.

My friend, are you on the side of truth? Have you made Jesus, the King of kings and Lord of lords, the King and Lord of your life?

Think about that as you take a little time to meditate on Revelation 19:15-16:

Coming out of his mouth is a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. “He will rule them with an iron scepter.” He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: king of kings and lord of lords

Did Jesus reveal anything special to you as you meditated on the verse?

Here’s what Jesus revealed to me as I studied and meditated on this verse:

Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and always. He is the same Good Shepherd who seeks his lost sheep. And he is the same conquering warrior who defeated death. He is a merciful judge who will come again with a sword to separate those who have accepted him as their King and Lord and Savior from those who have rejected him. He is I AM and he is the Lord of Lords and King of Kings. Because Jesus is also pure love, it is easy to only see the gentle side of him. But make no mistake, he is the one true king, and one day, every knee in every nation will bow before him. This verse shouldn’t cause us to be frightened or fear Jesus, but should put him in the proper perspective. He deserves our respect, our worship, and our praise. Isn’t it a wonderful reality to know that Jesus, the King of kings, and Lord of lords, wants to walk with you?

Let’s take some time to meditate again on Jesus, the King of Kings, and what that means to us.

You are now at the halfway point of your walk. If you need to be back in 10 minutes, this would be the time to turn around and head back.

Now I am going to pray for us:

Dear Jesus,I admit it feels more comfortable to think of you as a gentle shepherd than as a fierce warrior. It feels more comfortable to think of you as my walking friend rather than the Lord and King that you are. Help me appreciate, with awe in my heart, that you are both my friend and the King of Kings. How can this be, Jesus, that you would love me so much that you would come down to my level? That you – the creator of the universe, the one who holds all things together, the mighty warrior who will one day create a new heaven and earth – that you, the Lord of Lords and King of Kings would want to be my friend and walk with me. My heart is overwhelmed. I love you, Jesus, King of Kings, and I thank you for walking with me always. Amen.

Here are some questions for you to consider.

How does it make you feel to think of Jesus as both a shepherd and a mighty warrior? Take some time to consider your answer.

What can you do to help introduce Jesus to others so they can seek repentance before he returns, and it is too late? Remember, praying is powerful. Take some time to consider this and to pray for unbelievers now.

How would you feel if you were invited to meet a member of the royal family, or someone you admire? Knowing how that would make you feel, how does it feel to know that Jesus, the King of Kings, wants to walk with you? Consider your response now.

Before we wrap up, listen to today’s verse one last time: Revelation 19:15-16:

Coming out of his mouth is a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. “He will rule them with an iron scepter.” He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: king of kings and lord of lords.

Is there anything else you would like to talk to Jesus about? Remember, he is right there with you, walking with you, and he is eager for you to share all that is on your heart and mind with him. Take some time to talk to Jesus now.

Well, you did it! 10 minutes of walking! Today was a packed day as we meditated on Jesus, the King of Kings! I hope your body and soul feels rejuvenated. Thank you for taking the time to walk with me, my friend. But more importantly, you walked with Jesus! And I know that he will bless you above and beyond what you can imagine for spending this time with him.
