Hello, my walking friend! Time to set your mind and heart to focus on Jesus! I hope by now your blood is pumping and you are on your way! Look at you go! You are doing good things for your body and soul!
Today is the 7th episode in the names of Jesus series. It is such a blessing to meditate on all these different names of Jesus because each one is a special blessing to those who follow him.
Today we are reflecting on Jesus, the Cornerstone.
Our verse to meditate on today is: Ephesians 2:19-22:
Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.
What a beautiful way to think of Jesus – the cornerstone of every facet of life. Don’t you think the metaphor God chose to use in this scripture is awesome!
Take a little time now to meditate on Ephesians 2:19-22:
Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.
Did Jesus reveal anything special to you as you meditated on the verse? Did anything in particular stand out to you?
Here’s what Jesus revealed to me as I studied and meditated on this verse:
Jesus is the chief cornerstone. If we build our lives around him, we will live on a solid foundation. Our walls will be straight and our home will be safe within the boundaries of his kingdom.
Jesus is the chief cornerstone of the temple. Every saint and true church is built around him. But we need to be careful, because there are counterfeit contractors who will try to deceive us. That is why we need to study his blueprints, his word, to know the plans he has for our lives.
Part of his plan for our lives is to make us his temple. When we build our lives around him, Jesus will come and dwell in us. He is the cornerstone of all creation, laid before he created the universe, so that one day we could live together with him forever.
Let’s take some time to meditate again on Jesus, the Cornerstone, and what that means to us.
You are now at the halfway point of your walk. If you need to be back in 10 minutes, this would be the time to turn around and head back.
Now I am going to pray for us:
Dear Jesus,
Forgive me for the times when I don’t treat my body, mind, and soul like a temple that is meant for you to dwell in. Forgive me for not desiring to prepare my home for you – my inner home that is often cluttered with the cares of this world. When my foundation gets weak because I have stepped away from you, draw me back to your Word so that I can firm up my foundation once again. You are the cornerstone that I want to build my life around. Thank you for generously giving to me all the building materials I need to live a holy life – your word, your salvation, your spirit living in me. Thank you, Jesus, for walking me through the building process that makes me a reflection of you. Amen.
Here are some questions for you to consider.
Why do you think God’s ways build a firm foundation for your life? Take some time to consider your response.
How will you know if you have encountered a counterfeit contractor? What can you do to keep from being deceived? Take some time respond.
Do you regularly clean your soul-house to get rid of any clutter that might interfere with your relationship with Jesus? As you walk, ask Jesus to search your heart for anything that is separating you from him.
Before we wrap up, listen to today’s verse one last time:
Ephesians 2:19-22
Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.
Is there anything else you would like to talk to Jesus about? Remember, he is right there with you, walking with you, and he is eager for you to share all that is on your heart and mind with him. Take some time to talk to Jesus now.
Well, you did it! 10 minutes of walking! Give yourself a pat on the back! Thank you for taking the time to walk with me, my friend. But more importantly, you walked with Jesus! And I know that he will bless you above and beyond what you can imagine for spending this time with him.
