Hello, my walking friend! I bet you have already started walking – if so, yay you! Remember, 10 minutes of walking a day could increase your lifespan! So get your blood pumping and set your mind and heart to focus on Jesus.

Today is the second episode in the names of Jesus series. There are so many names or titles that Jesus is known by and they are all so powerful.

Today we are reflecting on Jesus, the Omega.

Our verse to meditate on is Revelation 22:13 (NIV):

I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.

In our last episode, we meditated on Jesus, the Alpha, the first, the beginning. Today we will look at Jesus, the Omega, the last, the end.

Omega is the 24th and last letter of the Greek alphabet and means the final part, the end. When Jesus said he was the Alpha and Omega, he is telling us that through him, all things in heaven and earth have their beginning, and through him, there will be a final judgement and an end. Jesus, the Omega, reveals to us that he and God are one and that his nature is eternal.

2 Peter 3:10 tells us:

…the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.

Life as we know it will end because Jesus is the Omega.

Take a little time now to meditate on Revelation 22:13.

I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.

Did Jesus reveal anything special to you as you meditated on the verse?

Here’s what Jesus revealed to me as I studied and meditated on this verse:

Just as Jesus is the Alpha, he is also the Omega, the end, the final judgement. It is his desire that, at that judgement, none would perish – none- but that all would have eternal life with him.

As we look around at the world and all that is happening, it is easy to despair. But Jesus doesn’t want that – he wants us to think of him, to focus on him, and to remember that he is coming back. There will come a time when all that we know will end. For those of us who walk with Jesus, who know him as our Lord and Savior, it will be a glorious time. But that won’t be the case for those who have rejected him, which is why I think he is waiting a little longer to come back. He wants as many as possible to come to him and it breaks his heart to know that not all will.

That is how much he loves those who bear his image. Though they pierced him and rejected him, and still do, he still loves them and yearns for them to turn from their sin and turn to him. He wants us, as believers, to remember this when we feel judgment toward unbelievers and when we see the evil in the world. Jesus understands our righteous anger, but he wants our hearts to be broken, too. Our hope is in him, the Omega, the end, because one day he will make all things right and all things new – just as he has promised. Walking friend, let’s walk as people who have hope.

Let’s take some time to meditate again on Jesus, the Omega, and what that means to us.

You are now at the halfway point of your walk. If you need to be back in 10 minutes, this would be the time to turn around and head back.

Now I am going to pray for us:

Dear Jesus,

It is so easy to get wrapped up in the day-to-day events of life and forget that you are coming back. Forgive us for not keeping your return to the forefront of our minds. Help us not to be like the bridesmaids who missed the wedding because they were busy with life. Let us always be seeking and yearning for your return. But help us balance that with love for the lost, love as you have for the lost. As much as we want your righteousness to set the world straight, we, too, want none to perish. So help us be patient during these turbulent times, Jesus. When we want to lash out, help us love instead. Help us rest in the assurance that one day you will return in glory and every knee will bow at your name. Thank you, Jesus, The Omega, for always walking with us. Amen.

Here are some questions for you to consider.

How do you feel when you hear people speak with disrespect about Jesus? Take some time to think about your response.

As a follower of Jesus, does knowing that Jesus is coming back to judge the world make you feel a little vindicated? Is it possible for your heart to be broken for the lost at the same time? Take some time to think about that.

Does knowing that Jesus could come back at any moment bring you peace or trepidation? If you have accepted the gift of salvation from Jesus, then remember there is no condemnation for you. Take some time to consider your answer.

Before we wrap up, listen to today’s verse one last time:

Revelation 22:13.

I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.

Is there anything else you would like to talk to Jesus about? Remember, he is right there with you, walking with you, and he is eager for you to share all that is on your heart and mind with him. Take some time to talk to Jesus now.

Well, you did it! 10 minutes of walking! Give yourself a pat on the back! Thank you for taking the time to walk with me, my friend. But more importantly, you walked with Jesus! And I know that he will bless you above and beyond what you can imagine for spending this time with him.  I hope we can walk together again tomorrow, friend. In our next episode we will consider another name of Jesus – Jesus Immanuel. Until then, God bless you as you walk with Jesus.
