Hello, my walking friend! I am so proud of you for taking 10 minutes out of your busy day to walk with Jesus! You are doing great things for your body and soul! So get your blood pumping and set your mind and heart to focus on Jesus.
Today is the 15th episode in the names of Jesus series. In our last episode we meditated on Jesus the Way. He really is the only way to the good things in life, isn’t he? Including the way to peace. And so today we are reflecting on Jesus, the Prince of Peace.
Our verse to meditate on today is Isaiah 9:6 NIV:
For unto us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
There are different forms of peace, don’t you think? There is global peace – where nations are not at war with each other. There is local peace – where communities are united and people are at peace with their neighbors. There is peace in the home – where married couples and their children are at peace with one another. And then there is a deeper, more significant, peace found at the level of the soul that comes from being restored with its creator.
Jesus, the Prince of Peace, is the source of peace in all of these areas. One day, he will be in charge of the government, and there will be peace in the world and our communities. But our individual peace, the peace that comes with being restored to God, is available to us right here and right now. Jesus told his disciples, and he tells us, Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27
And, even while we were sinners, Jesus died for us so we could have peace with God. He truly is our Prince of Peace.
Take a little time now to meditate on Isaiah 9:6:
For unto us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Did Jesus reveal anything special to you as you meditated on the verse?
Here’s what Jesus revealed to me as I studied and meditated on this verse:
Many things were written about Jesus before he was born, like this prophecy from Isaiah. All that was written was done for us, for you, so that we could believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing, we could have life in his name. Life in Jesus means peace. When we keep our minds fixed on him, and when we trust him, he will give us perfect peace.
As you walk today, share with Jesus all that is troubling you and robbing you of peace. See that he is also called the Wonderful Counselor? Give him your worries and anxieties. Trust him with your failures and your fears. Breathe in deeply his love for you and exhale any self-condemnation. Fix your mind on Jesus and he will give you a peace that surpasses understanding.
Let’s take some time to meditate again on Jesus, the Prince of Peace, and what that means to us.
You are now at the halfway point of your walk. If you need to be back in 10 minutes, this would be the time to turn around and head back.
Now I am going to pray for us:
Dear Jesus,
Sometimes peace seems so elusive in this world of conflict. Everywhere I look, there is chaos and division. Help me keep my eyes fixed on you and not on the world. Help me remember that this world is not yours but belongs to the enemy – but only for a time. Remind me, always, that you are coming back and when you do, you will make all things right. True peace will one day rule this world. For now, Jesus, let your peace rule my heart. Help me cast all my anxieties on you, remembering how much you care for me. Let the peace I have defy my circumstances and the world around me so that others will want what I have – which is a relationship with you. Thank you, Jesus, my Prince of Peace, for walking with me always. Amen.
Here are some questions for you to consider:
Do world events cause you to be anxious? Does it help to remember that Jesus is still in control and will one day make things right? Consider this now.
If you are prone to worry and anxiety, is there a verse you can memorize and make your mantra to help you fix your eyes on Jesus? Try to think of one now.
Do you feel shame when you worry or struggle with anxiety? Remember, there is no condemnation for those who love Jesus. But he wants to grow us and create a new spirit within us. Confess your excessive worry and anxiety to Jesus and remember that he loves you, forgives you, and wants to help you. Do that now.
Before we wrap up, listen to today’s verse one last time: Isaiah 9:6
For unto us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Is there anything else you would like to talk to Jesus about? Remember, he is right there with you, walking with you, and he is eager for you to share all that is on your heart and mind with him. Take some time to talk to Jesus now.
Well, you did it! 10 minutes of walking! Thank you for taking the time to walk with me, my friend. But more importantly, you walked with Jesus! And I hope that you are able to walk away with a peace that surpasses understanding.
