Hello, my walking friend! I bet you have already started walking – if so, way to go! Remember, 10 minutes of walking a day could increase your lifespan! And the more life you have, the more time you have to glorify Jesus! So get your blood pumping and set your mind and heart to focus on Jesus.
Today is the 16th episode in the names of Jesus series. There are so many names for Jesus and they are all so powerful but there is none more powerful, more significant, or more consequential than today’s name. Today we are reflecting on Jesus, the Savior.
Our verse to meditate on today is Acts 4:12 NIV:
Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.
Jesus, the Savior. No other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved. No other. Such powerful words! I love what Ann Spangler said in her book, Praying the Names of Jesus:
Just as Yahweh is God’s personal name in the Old Testament, Jesus is the personal name of the One we call Redeemer, Lord, and Christ. His name is intimately linked to the God of the Hebrew Scriptures because it means “Yahweh is salvation.” Indeed, Jesus is Yahweh come to earth. If you have ever pictured God as a distant, wrathful Being, you will have to reconsider that portrait in light of Jesus Christ, who is God bending toward us, God becoming one of us, God reaching out in mercy, God humbling himself,God nailed to a cross, God rising up from the grave to show us the way home. Jesus, name above all names, beautiful Savior, glorious Lord.
Now let’s take a little time to meditate on Acts 4:12:
Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.
Did Jesus reveal anything special to you as you meditated on the verse?
Here’s what Jesus revealed to me as I studied and meditated on this verse:
There is no language, no human words, to express the depth of Jesus’ love for his creation. This supernatural feeling and action can’t be fully put into words that we can understand. It would be like trying to explain to an ant the vastness of the universe. That is how great his love is for us, for you. From before the existence of time, he planned to be our savior. It was never his plan to be separated from us. As great as his love is for us, so is the sorrow Jesus feels for even one soul who has rejected him. That is how much he loves us. Jesus is the way to salvation and eternal life… if you will accept him as your savior. You see, friend, Jesus can only be a savior to those who admit they need one. One day, every knee will bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue will acknowledge that Jesus is the Lord, the Savior of the world. His name is exalted above all others because of his love. All he desires is that everyone, all, would see their need for him.
Let’s take some time to meditate again on Jesus, the Savior, and what that means to us.
You are now at the halfway point of your walk. If you need to be back in 10 minutes, this would be the time to turn around and head back.
Now I am going to pray for us:
Dear Jesus,
The love you have for me overwhelms me. I feel so unworthy of all you have done and continue to do for me. And yet, in times of suffering, I admit that I have questioned your goodness and love for me. Forgive me, my Lord and my Savior, for this weakness. Grow in me a heart of humility. Remove any traces of pride. Only through genuine humility can I see the depth of your love for me. The brokenness of this world, the brokenness in me, is not from you. It is from the pride that dwells in every human being. Pride that threatens our relationship with you. Thank you for loving us so much that you would make a way for us to be redeemed. Thank you for your mercy and patience that makes salvation possible. Not only do you forgive my sins, but you create in me a clean heart; my old life has gone and a new life has begun! You, Jesus, are my Lord and my Savior, and I give my life to you. Thank you for walking with me always. Amen.
Here are some questions for you to consider:
Think about the day you accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior. How did that happen? How did you feel? Think of those memories now.
In what ways does pride interfere with your relationship with Jesus? Consider your answer.
Why do you think it is hard for some people to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior? Do you think pride plays a part in their rejection of him? How so? Think of your answer now.
Before we wrap up, listen to today’s verse one last time: Acts 4:12
Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.
Is there anything else you would like to talk to Jesus about? Remember, he is right there with you, walking with you, and he is eager for you to share all that is on your heart and mind with him. Take some time to talk to Jesus now.
Well done, friend! 10 minutes of walking! I know today’s meditation on Jesus the Savior is deep – it is hard to imagine a love so great – so give yourself a pat on the back! Thank you for taking the time to walk with me, my friend. But more importantly, you walked with Jesus! I am praying that you will know Jesus, your Savior, more deeply.
