Hello, my walking friend! Can I just say I am so proud of you for taking the time to do something good for your body and soul? Let’s get our heart beats up and our hearts set on Jesus!
Today is the fourth episode in the names of Jesus series. So far we have meditated on Jesus the Alpha, the Omega, and Immanuel. If you haven’t had a chance to listen to those episodes, take another walk around the block and listen! But today we are reflecting on Jesus, the Morning Star.
Our verse to meditate on today is: Revelation 22:16
“I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.”
If you look at a dictionary definition of a morning star, you will read that it is a bright planet, such as Venus, seen in the eastern sky before or at sunrise. The morning star signifies that a new day is about to begin. In the same way, Jesus, the Morning Star, signifies the dawning of a new day. He reminds us that he is going to come back. And when he does, it will be a time when all wrongs will be made right and every tear will be wiped away. For those who have accepted Jesus as their Savior, it will mean eternity spent in the glorious light of Jesus. Until that time, meditating on Jesus, the Morning Star, should remind us of this promise and should give us hope.
Take a little time now to meditate on Revelation 22:16
“I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.”
Did Jesus reveal anything special to you as you meditated on the verse?
Here’s what Jesus revealed to me as I studied and meditated on this verse:
Jesus is the bright Morning Star, the Daystar. Doesn’t it seem strange that he would be called a “morning” star and a “day” star when we can’t see stars in the morning or daytime? But the stars are still there even when we can’t see them. Our sun, which is also a star, is so bright that it outshines every other star. It is only when the earth is turned away from its light that you can see the other stars. As you walk, consider how bright that must make our sun. And then consider that the glory of Jesus, the brightness of Jesus, the Morning Star, is a billion times brighter. So bright that it can be seen in the morning and the daytime. He is the brightest light in the universe and he has come to bring light to darkness so that all will see the glory of God. Jesus also shines a light on our souls so that he can purify our dark places. Just as the Morning Star signifies the dawning of a new day, Jesus is going to come back and it will be the dawning of a new age. There will be a new heaven and a new earth and we won’t need light from the sun anymore. Jesus, the Morning Star, in his glory, will be the only light we will need.
Let’s take some time to meditate again on Jesus, the Morning Star, and what that means to us.
You are now at the halfway point of your walk. If you need to be back in 10 minutes, this would be the time to turn around and head back.
Now I am going to pray for us:
Dear Jesus,
As I walk today, and feel the sun on my face, help me meditate on you, the Morning Star. As I try to see a star in the daytime sky, help me think about how bright your light is in this dark world. Jesus, I want to seek you more than anything in this world. Please reveal yourself to me today in a powerful way. As I feel the warmth on my skin from the sun, help me feel the warmth of your spirit in my heart. I long for you, my Morning Star, and as the flowers grow to face the sun, help me grow to face you, the Beloved Son. I love you, and I thank you, Jesus, for always walking with me. Amen.
Here are some questions for you to consider.
Have you ever thought about the brightness of the sun? Can you imagine how bright the glory of Jesus will be when he comes back? Take some time to imagine this.
There are no dark places when you are in the light of Jesus – does that feel welcoming to you or does it make you uncomfortable? If uncomfortable, Jesus is faithful to forgive any darkness in you and cleanse you with his light. Take some time to think about this and confess any sins you may be burdened with.
Whether you walk in the daytime or in the evening, look at the sky and find 3 things to thank Jesus for as you walk. Take some time to thank Jesus now.
Before we wrap up, listen to today’s verse one last time:
Revelation 22:16
“I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.”
Is there anything else you would like to talk to Jesus about? Remember, he is right there with you, walking with you, and he is eager for you to share all that is on your heart and mind with him. Take some time to talk to Jesus now.
Well, you did it! Another 10 minutes of walking with Jesus! Thank you for taking the time to walk with me, my friend. But more importantly, you walked with Jesus! Let’s keep it up! I know that he will bless you above and beyond what you can imagine for spending this time with him.
